Hi, I'M ANDRE
I'm a graphic designer living in the Bedstuy area of Brooklyn, and I'm in both with digital and print design. This includes (but not limited to) packaging, editorial layout, photo manipulation & retouching, infographics, advertisements, and even video editing.
DESIGN STYLE & Philosophy
I aim to keep things simple and clean, avoiding redundancies and illegible, hard-to-read clutter. I believe the faster the intended audience can navigate to the main point or message, while providing visually compelling content to engage with, the better I'm doing. Over-stylized and cluttered design certainly has its place, but it isn't my preference. I also pair my thorough understanding of the business side of things with the helpful ability to place myself in the shoes of the end-user. Before I engage a project, I like to understand its entire scope in order to hone in on what I'm trying to convey, who it's intended for, and where it'll live. I believe a tad bit of OCD when designing is a good thing because it keeps me thorough and reduces the chance of mistakes.
Ancient History
I started designing at the start of high school. After taking an introductory class which taught me the basics of flash animation and a few design principles, it quickly became my favorite subject. At home I would often tinker around with creative software and work on small personal projects which allowed me to develop my skills further. It almost felt like a seamless transition from my younger days doodling in class to what I was doing in digital design.
Immediately after graduating high school, I went into New York City College of Technology's design program. There, I had plenty of time to refine my skills, gain experience, network, and expand on my knowledge of creative programs. I also touched on closely related disciplines such as digital photography, 3D modeling, animation, and of course business & marketing.
OTHER INTERESTS
I enjoy editing funny videos, watching nature and space documentaries, Google searching the constant flow of random questions that come to my head, playing team-based video games, and thoroughly examining movies. I also have a strong interest in human behavior and sociology, not only because it helps me understand what makes people tick, but it provokes interesting conversations. I like to keep fit by going to the gym...as well as occasionally wondering aimlessly around the city.
